Missing Teeth! Gone but still causing problems
in your mouth!
A lost tooth is a dental problem that anyone can see. What they can’t
see is how the open space left in a mouth can damage the remaining
teeth. Many of Dr. Flower's patients assume that if they are still able
to eat, they are okay. Unfortunately, this is far from true. Very often,
the loss of even one tooth can cause a mouthful of problems:
- When a tooth is gone, the bone that used to hold it may start to
recede. This can result in a loss of support for the surrounding
teeth.
- Nearby teeth begin to drift into the empty space, causing a
change in the bite.
- The remaining teeth are forced to carry an additional load,
sometimes past their ability to adapt.
In most cases, when even one tooth is lost, the remaining teeth
suffer and are more likely to be lost as well. Dr. Flower can provide
information about which of several treatments is best for filling the
space left by a lost tooth.
